David R. Gillingham's Angels of the Apocalypse is a highly dramatic percussion ensemble for 8 players featuring thick, lush harmonies, sweeping arpeggios and mysteriously chromatic chord patterns. Inspired by the book of Revelation, this ensemble is composed programmatically to represent the end times. This rather dark ensemble involves a lot of extremes in terms of volume and speed. In general the individual parts are accessible to advanced high school students, but some licks are challenging even for professional-level players.
