			The percussionist plays snare drum, three graduated suspended cymbals, five graduated brake drums, and five temple blocks in this duet written in three, through-composed, short movements. Two fast outer movements frame a brief, slow movement of twenty five measures. An ascending scale pattern found in all movements (whole tone in the first and second) provides a unifying element. Unlike his role in the first and second movements, which is accompanimentel in nature, the percussionist in the last movement joins his colleague as an equal partner in the musical dialogue. Notwithstanding the classification of "artist level" assigned to this work, it should pose no unusual difficulties for two competent college level musicians.
