No matter we play solo, duo, trio or in quartet, the question remains always the same: what is the place of the beginning student, no matter his or her level?

	~~This collection~~ of ~~study pieces for~~ young ~~marimbists is one step in solving this problem~~.~~<br>~~		In this work Bart Quartier gives you an answer: let them play together. Even when the idea is not new, with his talent to combine the cycles, the tonalities, the styles, Bart Quartier gives everybody the opportunity to find his place. For the young students, the opportunity to play with the advanced people and at the same time for the 'older' ones it's often an occasion of a first pedagogic approach, aiming at situating and helping the young ones by reviewing their own approach as a player and musician.

' Ensemble for mallet ensemble ' is an arrangement of ' Profils 24 essais pour Vibraphone et Piano' for a small mallet ensemble (duo, trio, quartet). The songs go through 24 tonalities (C major, C minor, D major...) in different styles: classis, contemporary, jazz, folk.

			The purpose is that the young musicians learn what's about in chamber music, in an ensemble or an orchestra : this means to know the role of a percussion player. Is it solo or together with another instrument, is it a question to someone else or an answer, is it the beginning of a phrase or the ending, or is it just waiting, changing places, instruments, mallets...?

			The purpose of these 24 short pieces is that we learn to make music together , breath together, listen and watch each other, make phrases together with material easy to learn and to understand. The pieces are held short in order to concentrate on little fragments like it is in an orchestra.

			The ensembles are arranged in the way that a beginning student can play with an advanced. So the older ones are encouraging the young ones. The instrumentation is kept very restricted for practical reasons. A list of the difficulty of the pieces as well as a list of the instruments will give you a very clear idea. A selection was played on the occasion of collaboration between the Conservatories of Lyon, Geneva and Brussels in 2004. The première took place at the Koninklijk Muziekconservatorium Brussel on 8 November 2008.

			' Ensemble pour ensemble de claviers ' est un arrangement de ' Profils 24 essais pour Vibraphone et Piano' pour un petit ensemble (duo, trio, quartet) de percussions à clavier. Les chansons dans les 24 tonalités (Do majeur, Do mineur, Ré majeur...) ont différents styles : la musique classique, la musique contemporaine, le jazz, le folk.

			L'objectif tend à initier les jeunes musiciens à la musique de chambre, à un ensemble ou à un orchestre : c.-à- d. la maîtrise du rôle d'un percussionniste.

			Est-ce : solo ou une doublure d'un autre instrument, est-ce une question aux autres musiciens ou une réponse, est-ce le début ou la fin d'une phrase, ou parfois simplement attendre, ou changer de place, de l'instrument, des baguettes... ?

			Ces 24 courtes pièces ont pour but d'apprendre à jouer ensemble ; respirer ensemble, écouter et regarder chacun, former des phrases ensemble avec du matériel assez facile à étudier et comprendre. Les pièces restent courtes afin de se concentrer sur des petits fragments comme on trouve dans un orchestre.

Une sélection à été jouée à l'occasion d'une collaboration entre les Conservatoires de Lyon, Genève et Bruxelles en 2004.
