This is a day where as many as 40-50 musicians come together and perform chamber music with each other. This piece was designed for the high school and middle school students to perform for the closing concert. The piece is written to allow multiple players playing a variety of instruments on each of the mallet and percussion parts. <br /> <br /> Water and Ice is an exploration of sounds using percussion and water. The performers need to find instruments that will work the best in whatever containers they can find to hold water. Much of the techniques will involve slapping floating bowls, dipping metallic instruments to bend the pitch. The piece starts out with a clear liquid water sound effects... dripping water from hands, using a collander to drip water through, or even pouring water from a container to create the sound of moving water.
