Program Notes
First place winner in the 2015 PAS Composition Contest, Copper Wired is a powerful work for solo timpani and electronics that was partially inspired by Edgard Varèse's "Poem Électronique."
Work for Copper Wired started in the early spring of 2015, and even though the work was entered into the PAS contest for that year, the idea of such a piece had been on the composer’s mind for quite a while. Even though the work contains no programmatic ideas, it is in some part inspired by Edgard Varèse’s Poem Électronique . The "low bell” tolling sound is a clear reference to this pivotal work. Copper Wired was the first-place winner of the Percussive Arts Society’s 2015 International Composition Contest.
